3 to go!

So here I am staring at the final three performances with Celtic Thunder. I have been doing everything and anything not to think about it. Sad and all as it will be in Binghampton, I am VERY excited about the next twelve months! The messages of support and encouragement from all my fans have been so touching and welcoming and if I ever had a fear of losing you all by leaving Celtic Thunder, I now know you are a hell of a lot more loyal than that! Thank you!

Aside from the business end of things, I am getting my head around living in the States. When I look at the doom and gloom of the economy in Ireland at the moment, I feel now more than ever, I am doing the right thing. I love Dublin, and it will always be home. Though for now, home is going to be ..........NEW YORK!

I have seen many lovely places over the past few years across America and Canada, but as for work reasons, the Big Apple is the correct and obvious choice. Myself and Dominique are currently going around looking at beds, matresses (which come seperately oddly enough)pots pans, couches, tvs, etc etc......
This is not the part I particularly like! Although not surprisingly, Dominique LOVES IT!

Anyway, I just thought I would drop by and say hello and tell you that from here in, I will be posting at least one blog a week here on the site. It will be all about my new life in America flying solo! Im sure you will find some of my observations amusing, so keep tuned in and I will hope to have exciting news about gigs VERY soon! Album ideas are also being worked on, so hang tight peeps, its going to be an exciting fun, and sometimes emotional ride!

Love ya all

  9. That picture brought back my tears. I can only imagine how excited you all were and the anticipation you must have felt. Did you ever think it would come to where you are now?

OK - enough tears (for now). Thank you for taking the time to write this, Paul. I thought you were smart enough to choose NYC to live. Where else in the US are there such opportunities for someone with your talent? I know you will do well and look forward to your maybe travelling up to New England sometimes (probably after March or April when it warms up!) so we can see you here.

For now, I want to wish you and Dominique the very best of luck as you embark on this newest part of your journey. We will be with you - don't ever doubt that.

We will see you in Rochester and Binghamton to bid a fond farewell to you and to the rest of CT for now. It has been a fabulous CT Fall 2010 tour - you all should be so proud - "you done good!" It is such a pleasure to be one of your fans and to have the opportunity to see so many of your shows. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Travel safe up the New York State Thruway to Rochester. See you tomorrow night.

  23. Dear Paul,

You absolutely won't be flying solo since we'll all be flying right there with you, waiting with bated breath for the announcement of your tour dates and album release. I can't wait to see you fulfill that dream of singing to a packed house all on your own. Your Byrom Babes will be there front and center to cheer you on and support you.

  24. Paul, we will always be here! Thanks for taking us along on the ride. I'd like to put in a word for a venue in the Northwest sometime during your next gig! Best wishes!

  25. Paul - I want to repeat that you won't ever be flying solo - you have those close to you who love you & you have all of your loyal, very loyal fans who love & adore you! It's an adventure you have ahead you, my friend & adventures are the best! I came to CT because of your outstanding voice caught me. I've loved the adventure, & will continue to cherish the adventure of being a thunderhead. Now, I'm a Byrom Babe too :) ....and about that coffee company's endorsement from Seattle - we'll see what can happen. A new CD would be great for them to promote @ the point of ordering. A couple of gals from Seattle are headed out to your last, but not least, concert. Sigh!! Enjoy the holidays & setting up your new digs. Let us know where we can continue to send presents & all that :) Love, Jill

  26. You are right, it is bittersweet for all of us as well. Things are changing (I personally don't like changes, but that's another story).
So you won't be part of Celtic Thunder any longer, which is sad, BUT you are starting an entirely new chapter in your life, which I am sure, can be somewhat scary to you, learning to live in a new country, a new life. But the Paul we all have come to know and love can do ANYTHING!!!
I just know that you will be very successful in your new solo career. And you can be sure of one thing.... We will always be with you, support you, love you and cheer you on. I promise you, your fans here are not just "good weather friends". We are REAL!!!
Please let us come along for the "ride" and share your experiences, good and bad.
    Love you!!!!!

  41. Okay, take two in posting a comment :)

    Paul,

Thank you for posting this! I enjoyed reading it so much.

I remember that you once said that, were you ever to leave Dublin, you would come to NYC, but I could never understand why--so many people!

This is coming from a second-hand experience, but I hope that you like stand-still traffic, annoyed drivers, a LOT of people, a VERY BUSY city, and I hope that you do not plan on buying a car, because you will reach your destination faster and safer if you walk.

Good luck in the States, and please come by the West Coast for any solo concerts. I would love to hear you perform live again.

    -Iryna D.

By the way, what in the world did you give Damian in that photograph? ROFL!

  42. Wait! Stop! Does this mean we will not be seeing you in a kilt again? You may want to re think this whole thing!

  43. My 8 year old daughter gave me a parting gift as I was ready to leave for the 6 hour drive to Halifax to catch the flight to Binghamton on Wed. a.m She gave me a little package of tissues and said these are for you for the concert. I was a little confused, She explained as this would be Paul's last show with CT, I would "need" them :) LOL
And I'm sure I will Paul, as will may others in attendance and maybe even those on stage !!! See you Thursday night in Bingahmton, coming all the way from Nova Scotia to see you guys :)

  47. Dearest Paul,

Your blog leaves me a little unsettled, as it lacks a few details--like; what kind of gigs do you have lined up for the upcoming year? who is doing your promoting, because mainstream media is NOT carrying this story. you are going to be in NY, your manager needs to find a way to get you on the David Letterman show, get you out there to the masses--to showcase your individual talent. if they are not doing that, you need to get a new one.

you have a very small fan-base with CT and with this wonderful media called the internet, but in the States, that is not enough to support your life in the most expensive city in this country. always remember that fans are fickle, and if you are not out there in their face, they WILL forget you.

i have just one last comment--you are an Irishman and you have chosen a city that has a HUGE Irish population, cater to that. Music written and sung in Irish would set you apart from the rest of the good-looking, talented, young men trying to make a name for themselves in that great city. And it would give this fan what she wants as well.

I really do enjoy your music and look forward to more of it. God Bless. And I do look forward to enjoying this new adventure with you as it has been a pleasure watching you and your talent mature with CT.

    lotsaluv

  49. Paul, I am so very saddened to learn that you are leaving CT. But also very excited for you. Glad you have chosen NYC as your new home and glad that Dominique has chosen to come too. Also hope that this living in NYC will lead you to Broadway as I think you have the perfect voice and talent for the stage.

Tonight in Rochester will be very bittersweet for me also as it will be the last time that I will see the 5 guys I 'fell in love with' perform together. It's been a great ride these last almost 2 years since first seeing you on my local PBS. Was just flipping through the channels and there you were! Can't imagine CT without you though.

I'm learning Irish at the Buffalo Irish Center in honor of not only you, but my ancestors who came from Ireland. I've always felt a strong connection to Ireland and through recent Family History research leading me there, I finally know why.

God Bless and Keep You Always in His care.

    Lotz of love :)

  50. Ah, Paul, a lovely blog! Saw the show in Providence and my hubby commented after Ave Maria that you will be missed! So true. CT will not be the same without you, and we will miss you at the shows. However, we are looking forward to seeing you perform solo, hopefully very soon!
Thank you, Paul, for all the joy you
have brought us since 2008. May there be much more to share!

  52. Hi, Paul,
I can imagine that you're both excited and a bit sad at leaving CT. However your link won't end, since the Coulters will be a part of your life! I agree about the economy in Ireland, keeping up by reading Irish newspapers as well as online news sites. NYC seems a very good choice for you and Dom right now.
I am sure you have already invited the other guys to visit or crash @ your place when in NY? lol! (Dom get some covers for that new furniture);-D
Loyal? You BET we are, took you guys into our hearts from the very start! Excited to see what is next for you. I am wishing you allthe best in the future. Glad we can check in here from time to time to see what's up! BTW, will there be a NY address for fan mail?

  61. Thanks for the update. It's unfortunate you won't be home for Christmas. Is there any way the gifts/etc. that people have tried to be sure get to you by Christmas can be forwarded to you in the States? I would think it would be nice to have them. By the way, do you ever acknowledge receipt of letters, cards and gifts or are there just too many and not enough time?

All the best for a wonderful final show!
    Be well.

  63. Dear Paul, I heard tonight was magical & EVERYONE was in rare form! 2 wonderful & fiercely loyal Seattle fans were in the audience & tweeted updates all through the concert - got to love the tech! I can't wait to read your account of the last 24 hrs. Now, rest, bask in the good vibes of knowing what a wonderful tour it was, rest some more, enjoy Christmas & New Year's, rest up & then Hit the Streets & get this solo career on the Ball!! We want to see you on PBS with a new CD & booked in concert halls all over America, but especially in Seattle - land of that certain coffee company that would be nuts not to feature your new CD! What do you say? Hugs & love to you, Jill

  64. "At least one blog a week..."

Definitely looking forward to that, Paul! :)

True about the fact that if you don't promote yourself in the States, you will be forgotten.
Here, you need to get out and onto Talk Shows if you can, interviews, anything, as long as you stay in the spotlight.
If you slack off, then you will have a VERY hard time getting back.

The CT fanbase is not all that large in comparison to those of other stars in America, and you will need to work on that.

Maybe try being in the St. Patrick's Day celebration in NYC, ths time as a solo performer, not as part of CT.
Won't they want to have you back?

Good luck and Best Wishes from all,

    -Iryna

  65. Also would love to see you sporting a kilt again. :) Any chance you can work that in somehow?

  66. you seem very familiar with American politics. Once many years ago a presidential canidate named Dan Quale compared himself to John F. Kennnedy. He was immmediatly told by another politician"You,Sir, are no John Kennnedy!" Where am I going with this? I just want you to know that Mr. Cahill is no Paul Byrom! Sorry , but CT will never be what it was without you!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Who has made this decision to replace you with a twenty yr. old? Sorry, but it is a bad one. Having been at Many of the CT concerts, all one has to do is look around. As You have said in many interviews, the fans are from 10 to 110. The majority are women in their 40's, 50's and 60,s, as they listen to you, all wishing they were just a few years younger, listening and watching you, and enjoying your antics, your facial expressions, and enjoying your charm. For just a few hours sometimes a few days we forget the extra years and smile as we recall those magical hours we have spent with you and the original crew. Now it seems they have become that"boy band" that you have correctly been adamant that they not become from the beginning! Please stay true to who you are, Paul. Celtic Thunder has not!

    ReplyDelete
  68. okay, I apologize for that rant, got it out of my system! While I will still attend every CT concert I can(love the original guys) , you will always come first!
