Summer End!

So I'm reliably told that come Labour Day weekend, it spells the end to the summer, and wearing of white!! That rules out my new suit for the upcoming gigs!! However, Im hopeful we will get another few weeks of sun and fun before the Autumn really kicks in.
Its funny, much as I love the summer, I always enjoy the Autumn too. I often find myself to be very pensive around Autumn. Leaves fall, colours around you change, and indeed it gets a tad colder. I suppose with the leaves falling, I often think of those past. How the seasons can represent ones life. Its also a time for me to ask, whats the plan for the remainder of the year. What have I achieved so far in the year, and what I want to do before Autumn next year.
Autumn is also a time when the majority of acts take to the road and tour. I suppose being honest, I would have loved to be announcing a big tour for this Autumn. However these things take time to build, and although I have many of you asking for me to come to your local towns and cities, it takes a touch more. Hopefully it wont be much longer before you all get to come and see me live.
I don't know about you, but for me, this year has flown by. I cannot believe it is September already, and that Christmas is fast approaching. I suppose its a good sign that I have found the year fly as it suggests I've been busy. As many of you already know, I am working desperately hard to get my own PBS special together. This is a lot harder than you can ever imagine. Especially as the stations we are in talks with emphasize the fact that funding for their stations is at an all time low, and may drop even further in the not so distant future. Funding is all down to me. That being said, I am very hopeful of being able to pull it off. The special may not have a huge set and laser lights. However, what it will have, and this I can guarantee, is great music and something for everyone.
The support I have received from you all in regard to this has been amazing and hopefully you will all be able to get involved in it somehow in the not so distant future. However whether or not you do, its great to know that there are people out there rooting for me. Trust me, there are days when I wanna give up the whole thing and walk away. Days when you feel your hitting your head against a brick wall and going no where. Days where finding the belief in yourself to keep fighting the fight are near to impossible. That being said, those are out numbered by the days where I feel I can conquer the world.Least of all, America and Canada. Much of that is down to you, your support, and that of my family and friends.
It was about this time last year we were getting ready to release THIS IS THE MOMENT. I was nervous as to how it would be received. Should I have ever doubted you?! No.1 on the World Billboard Charts and Amazon, cemented my beliefs in you all. So now its a year on, and I am anxious to get more stuff out. That will happen soon, I promise.
Last month, I had the great pleasure of returning home to do my own concert in Dublin's National Concert Hall. It was that very stage at the age of 12, I made my professional debut. Appearing as Amahl, in the opera "Amhal and The Night Visitors" with our National Concert Orchestra.
It has always been my home venue. The one I am happiest performing in. Although this time around I was unsure if we would have a great crowd, as I havn't done a solo concert in Dublin for some time. I was afraid no one would remember me. That time moves on, and so do peoples interest. Yet on the night we had a full house. I was overwhelmed. There is nothing like returning to your home town and being welcomed with open arms. Long may that continue. Dublin will always have my heart.
Its funny, I often do wonder, for those who don't follow me here or on social media, how they keep in touch as to what Im doing. Im aware that many don't, and often find out news months after I've been to their town. This is something that I am aware of and I suppose often makes me wonder how many fans of CT still turn up expecting me to come out on stage!! When I don't, what do they say? What do they wonder?!! Hopefully in time, all will know what I am doing and all will be delighted to support and come along to my shows.
In the meantime, I can only hope that those of you reading this and keeping in touch, will spread the word for me.
I start the few autumn dates I have, this Saturday in Boston at the Regatta Bar. I cant wait. There is no happier man than me when I know I am going to be going on stage. Meeting you all after the show and hearing all your feedback. Boston is a great city to start the Autumns gigs as it is often hailed as the 33rd county of Ireland. There is a huge amount of Irish there. On top of that, singing regularly for the Celtics, I have adopted it as one of my favourite cities. I just spent the weekend up there with Dominique and some close friends. On Saturday, we went out onto the water on a friends boat and spent the day on the water. Swimming and tubing were all done, and I am glad to say I stayed on! BBQ's were had and one or two laughs!
Life is far too short. Notice how quick this year has passed. Time with friends and family should be cherished and made as often as possible. If not possible, a phone call to those you love should happen regularly. Whether it be a long call, or a quick hello. The fact you thought of them and did something about it will mean the world to them. Who knows, t could be the difference between a bad day and a great day for them.
I look forward to seeing some of you this Autumn, and for the rest of you, I hope it wont be long. I miss not seeing you all regularly, but I know its only a matter of time before we meet again soon

Keep well and keep happy

  1. Paul,
Great blog as always. I already have tickets to the Shelby, NC concert in November and can't wait to see you there. I will have my mother and my granddaughter with me so we'll have three generations attending. We all loved you with CT and that hasn't changed. I'm so looking forward to meeting you. I'm glad you don't give up when you feel like doing just that. You are far too talented and special not to share that with the world!

    A fan for life,

  2. Velvet Voice, I am so happy that you have several shows this fall. The people in those areas are so lucky and yes, I am jealous. Just don't want this to be the first year of not seeing you in person. Please let us know what else we can do. Did you get the venues I sent from Florida? Mainly just one part of Fl. I also emailed the two PBS stations in this area.
Thank you so much for always keeping us informed of what you are doing and letting us see a little into your life. Is the merchandise on your site still available? Do you make any profit from it. Have told newer fans about it and will push it more if it will help. Maybe a few spring dates would be better. What can we do to help you with the PBS show? Planning a wedding is fun and frustrating : )You two will get there before you know it. You know we all cannot wait : )Take Care! Love and Hugs

  3. Great blog, Paul. We don't need lasers, lights, or smoke to appreciate your shows....your voice is enough! Know we are here, behind you, and keep working for that PBS special. In the meantime, thanks for coming to Boston this Saturday. We;ll be there cheering you on!

  4. What a lovely read as usual. It's always so fun to read how you are getting along and what thoughts are going through your head as you work to further your career and your personal life. I'm so happy to see you and Dom both got away for the weekend and that you had good weather. We had much rain this weekend but since we're in such a drought condition I won't complain too much.

I can only imagine how special the Dublin concert was for you. Wish I could have made it over, but maybe next time. Still hoping to see you this fall or in December for the Christmas show. Missed the NY show by a mere week. :(

Paul, we'll always be here to support you in all your endeavors any way we can so be sure to let PBS stations they might see an increase in revenues by sponsoring your specials. :)

    Hugs to you and Dom,
    Pat

A great blog as usual ..I know I saw you last Fall in Philly and I saw you in Sellersviller. Pa ..Sellersville is in my next of the woods ..It is in Buck County .. But Bucks county takes in a large area ... There in Lower Bucks County where I'm from , Upper Bucks is where Sellersville is and there is Central Bucks that takes in New Hope, Pa ...I would love for you to come to Lower Bucks in Bristol, Pa ... They have a great Theater there..It is like the one in Sellersville ..It is a old movie Theater attached to a very nice restaurant .. You can take the train to it ... Here is the link to it http://www.theatrealliance.org/member/bristol-riverside-theatre... It is close to Philly , NJ and Delaware ... I'm going to Celtic Thunder show Oct 13 in Philly and will be glad to give out flyers there like I did last year too.. And as a administrator of Paul's Nightingales I keep spreading the word there too for you ... And make sure everyone goes to PBO on Facebook ...
I hope everything goes well with you and Dom with you wedding plans.

  6. Thanks for keeping in touch, can't believe there are some who don't know what you're doing!! Don't give up Paul, you sound a little down but remember everything that really matters usually takes some TLC!! I'm one of those waiting for you to come to my part of the country (Western Canada)and will be sharing your progress with everyone I can! Hoping the best for you and Dominique. Yes! This year has quickly disappeared!

  7. Love your blog Paul, and yes you were terrific in Dublin. I was one of the lucky one's to attend your concert. And receive a tie LOL.
Don't ever give up on your fans. We love you and will always be there to support you! Hope to see you soon somewhere here in the US.
    Hugs,
    Jutta

  8. Yeah, Jeanne's right. Flashy lights and sets are overrated. Most of the best PBS specials in my opinion are about the artists and the music, and what we'd want to see on our TVs is you singing, not a crazy stage set. I'm sure there are a lot of folks still clueless about that you're not touring with CT, but they'll figure it out eventually if they want to- it's not like we've kept it a big secret on any of the social media sites. Hope to see you sometime in Colorado (the closer to Fort Collins the better); all my efforts w/OPB are a bit long-distance and not so effective so long as only the East Coast gets to see you on stage. Best of luck, as always,
    -Jamie

  9. Lovely blog, thanks for keeping us all up-to-date. Can't wait for you to come to Florida, so I'm coming to NYC to see you at BB Kings in three weeks. A PBS special and dvd release would be wonderful, keep working on it, please!

  10. I have to say, just a stool, a microphone, and Dave on the piano, are all that's needed to enjoy a Paul Byrom show as far as I am concerned!
Between the great music, and extremely entertaining banter,I feel that the evening is a total success!
OK, OK,I promise not to nag you about a show my friends and I would happily attend, (cough, ahem, philly)! ;-)
We are ready to rock & roll whenever you need us...just holla! Have been spreading the love for PB in concert lately, hope its helping!
    Cheers!

  11. Lovely blog, Paul. I am one of those hoping for the PBS special to become a reality for you, and wishing for a show in Houston. The other day I was driving my 5 year old granddaughter home after she spent a few days with me. As usual, she requested CT for the drive. After listening to one of your solos she said to me in a really wistful voice, "I wish Paul was still 'wiff' Celtic 'Funder.' He has such a pretty voice." Out of the mouths of babes... You are indeed missed from the CT shows, but I know your dream is to go solo, so I wish you every success. Keep the faith. I know great things are coming for you and Dom! All the best...

  13. A great blog, as always, Paul. Thank you for spending some time with us and sharing what you're thinking about.

We're down to counting the hours to the Regatta Bar show in Cambridge, Paul. Looking forward to another of your fantastic shows. See you on Saturday night! :)

  14. Paul, since a lot of fans won't be able to see you this fall; how about asking them to send you whatever they would have paid for a ticket to one of your shows. You could then put that money into an account to raise the funds you need for the PBS Special. That would make many of your friends and fans a part of getting you on the air

Love hearing from you and I will keep the faith. It'll be great when you have a gig here in Nebraska. You were such a hit with everyone who saw you and Neil on our PBS station and especially with those of us who saw the show in person. You were so funny and we all had a great time!
    Enjoy your Autumn.

  16. Paul, thank you for your blog. I always love to hear from you. Thank you also for the amazing concert in Dublin. I had so much fun and I was deeply touched. I laughed and I cried... sometimes both at the same time. And never before I bowed to a sold out concert hall! :)
Thank you for saying "Hi" to my mom in the video. She was so surprised and has watched the clip about 100 times. ;) She wants to say thank you too. We both hope to see you in Dublin next year!
You can always count on my support!! My best wishes to you and Dom.
    Love from Germany
